Celebrating Juneteenth
In celebration of Juneteenth we are hosting a 3-day event to shine a light on the importance of reading literacy for our community’s youth. As the Oakland NAACP Chapter member aptly notes, “When a child can’t read, their chances of incarceration, homelessness, and unemployment increase.” The event will feature the screening of the documentary film “The Right to Read,” executive produced by LeVar Burton and directed by Jenny Mackenzie. The event will culminate on Wednesday, June 19th, with a continental breakfast, the final screening, and a panel discussion and book fair.
