Location Detail

Location Name The Pagoda
Location Description Based on the Nagoya Castle in Japan, The Pagoda was built in 1908 as a seven story luxury hotel/resort as a way to hide a mountainside eyesore caused by a local businessman's stone quarry. However, when the resorts application to serve alcohol was denied, the hotel never opened and it was later donated to the city. The bell, cast in Obata, Japan in 1739 still sits in the tower. Visible from almost every part of the city during both night and day, it has become a symbol and landmark to the City of Reading.
