Location Detail

Location Name Charles Evans Cemetery
Location Description Charles Evans Cemetery is a nonsectarian, garden-style cemetery founded by Charles Evans in 1846. Sitting on 127 acres, seventy-two thousand interred individuals rest here including two thousand men who served during the American Civil War. The most prominent architectural feature of the Cemetery is the sand-stone Entrance Way which adorns the main access along Centre Avenue. Completed in 1852, this impressive structure reflects the Gothic Revival style which was popular at that time. Located immediately north of the main entrance gate, the Tudor-style office building was constructed in 1927.
